PleasureTown History: The Founding
PleasureTown’s origin is as unclear as its history. Official documents state that PleasureTown was founded on April 19th 1892. Academic and archeological research suggests that the settlement began two years earlier. Although mostly anecdotal, a third and more popular hypothesis suggests the true origin of PleasureTown occurred in the winter of 1887 at a bar in southern Arkansas.
Claudius BLANK had been winding his way west ever since abandoning his family’s Mississippi plantation while Cyrus BLANK arched his way east from his father’s homestead in New Mexico. The two paths converged in Hope, Arkansas. Both men fell into a solitary and itinerant life due to their dissatisfaction with the trappings and rules of the “modern society,” but it took only one night for them to discover they held a kinship fueled by a common dream: A community based on the principles of hedonism.
Less than a week after their introduction, the two pleasure seekers headed West with the intention of obtaining land through the Land Runs. PleasureTown’s eventual home lay near the western edge of what would become Oklahoma. This region was not “officially” available until the Land Run of 1892, four years after Claude and Cyrus claimed to have christened their new home. This discrepancy suggests either the two founders lied about the age of their town, or they paid enough money to the right people to keep PleasureTown off the books and out of sight.
