The son of a freed slave, Elijah arrived in PleasureTown by way of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He and his brother, Jebediah, fled their hometown after a violent encounter with a bigot. In PleasureTown, Elijah serves as the town barber and the caretaker of his blind and mute brother. After the Great Fire, Elijah assumes the role as the leader of the Shantytown residents.
